“With the support of the Black Student Fund I am able to connect with peers, learn, flourish and think about how I can give back to others. The Black Student Fund really improves lives. I know this because I stand here today as living proof of all of your efforts and donations.”
-Remarks from BSF Scholar Mya Harris at BSF’s 50th Anniversary Gala
December 16, 2014
On October 17, 2014, the Black Student Fund (BSF) celebrated 50 years of helping Washington D.C.’s underserved students gain access to and successfully graduate from local independent schools. We need your help as we prepare to tackle the next 50 years.
For 50 years over 93% of our high school seniors graduated from high school and matriculated to college. As a result, BSF Alumni obtain college degrees and go on to excel at graduate programs, law schools and medical schools across the country. This Fall BSF launched two new programs, Backpack to Briefcase and STEM BSF, to ensure the next generation of youth are prepared for the challenges they face in and out of the classroom.
This year alone, over 800 individuals contacted us seeking assistance for their children. More than 4,500 people and 70 schools attended our Annual Independent School Fair and we expect more than 400 applications to BSF this year. With demand for our services higher than ever, we NEED your support to continue helping students gain educational access and cultural inclusion across the greater DC region. We cannot continue to change the lives of the students we impact without YOU.
Donations can be made online at blackstudentfund.org. EVERY donation, large or small, helps BSF continue to offer our students the resources they need.
We are grateful for 50 years of support and look forward to the next 50 years! Thank you so much for helping our students build strong futures!
